Event: The future of tech development and government policies

On September 6th, 2021, DSA is hosting an online event covering the impact of government policies on the Dutch startup ecosystem's development. During this event, called ‘The future of tech development and government policies’, DSA and The Next Web bring a great list of speakers covering the impact of future government policies like the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act on the Dutch startup ecosystem. The event will offer presentations from DSA spokespersons, start/scaleups, and several experts in the field. It will also offer a roundtable discussion regarding the future of the Dutch startup ecosystem.

DSA believes that new regulations like the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act will have serious consequences for startups and scaleups. However, we feel that there is a lack of urgency on these topics within the Dutch Parliament. For this reason, DSA and NLdigital already sent out a letter some time ago calling Dutch Parliament to action and urging them to create clear and deliberate positions on these topics before they are discussed in the EU Competitive Council. While DSA welcomes the Digital Markets Act and limiting the power of so-called gatekeeper platforms, we are worried about the proposal in its current form. It has the potential to open more doors to innovation by establishing clear and updated rules for competition within European digital markets. However, these new rules should not dissuade startups from starting or scaling up in the EU in the first place.
