January 2021 has reached an end, and with that, it comes the opportunity to compare the first month of the year with the start of 2020 and see how far the Dutch entrepreneurial ecosystem has grown. Using our partner, Dealroom, the DSA was able to put together an easy-to-read update for this month.
Investments: growing in numbers
In January 2021, we were able to witness an increase of 264 percent on investments received by Start-ups and Scale-ups, adding up to more than € 262M in funding. Of this total, € 3.75M was raised in seed rounds and over € 207M in series A.
Moreover, female entrepreneurs were able to raise a total of € 7M in January this year, 19% more than in January 2020, taking a step closer to breaching the gender gap within the entrepreneurship industry.
Venture Capital rounds
Although the total amount of investments increased, the number of venture capital (VC) rounds did not. In comparison to January 2020, the VC rounds that took place in January 2021 halved, summing up to only 17 rounds.
The rest of the update looks at the number of new startups, distributions by type of funding round, and other aspects of the startup industry during January, see the infographic for all the data we collected via Dealroom.
