DSA has signed an open letter to the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, regarding the EU-US Summit that is taking place this week. The letter urges them to put aside differences, focus on tearing down barriers to digital trade, and unleash the huge potential for innovation.
This week, President Biden will join the EU-US Summit in Brussels with leading members of the EU institutions. Together with the global startup umbrella organization, Allied for Startups, and startup organizations from various countries we have drafted a letter to encourage both sides to a closer and more fertile transatlantic partnership.
The upcoming EU-US Summit is a unique opportunity to revitalize our transatlantic partnership. Moreover, it is an event where we can reaffirm the values that have underpinned our democracies and economies - forces allowing us to benefit our citizens and create unparalleled growth, prosperity, and jobs. Startups and entrepreneurs will be eagerly following the EU-US Summit on June 15th. We will look for reassurance that there is sufficient political will to nurture the transatlantic economy as the largest, most prosperous, and most innovative in the world.
Entrepreneurs on both sides of the Atlantic propose a fresh dialogue on regulatory issues and the removal of prohibitive barriers to trade and investment. We are ambitious about new technologies and their potential for businesses and consumers. Now, more than ever, we need to focus on the huge potential of trade and cooperation between our economies - so as our business models, and the inherent democratic foundation of these, continue to influence the global economy. We will share this letter with leading Members of the European Parliament as well to ensure the issues remain on the agenda.
